Narrative
Rev. William Swift graduated from Cambridge University in 1717-18 and was ordained a priest at St. Paul's Cathedral in London. He and his family were sent by King George II to serve as clergyman for the Church of England at St. Peter's Church, St. George's Parish, in Bermuda the oldest Anglican Church in continuous use in the New World. In 1728 the family moved to Hanover County, Virginia, where Rev. Swift served as first rector of Old Fork Church and Hallowing Church.
